I wrote a plugin for 3ds max to create quick trees on the fly with very minimal interaction required.
You can go further into the sliders for more detailed control over the shape.
Any changes made to the tree are immediately visible thanks to the live update feature. The script is optimized for speed and will generally generate in real time.
Once you are happy with the result you can quickly easily export everything.
